Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames is hoping to remain with the club for the long haul.

"I think I've said it before. I'd love to stay," Adames said Wednesday, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. "I love the city, I love the fans, I love playing here. We haven't had any conversations yet, but I'm always ready to listen to see what they have."

Adames and the Brewers avoided arbitration with an $8.7-million contract for this season. The 27-year-old has one more year of club control before he reaches free agency following the 2024 season.

The Brewers acquired Adames from the Tampa Bay Rays in May 2021 and have watched him blossom into one of baseball's best all-around shortstops. Adames had a breakout campaign in 2022, setting career highs in home runs (31), RBIs (98), and fWAR (4.7) across 139 games.

Although Adames and the Brewers have yet to discuss a long-term contract, he's ready and willing to do so at any time.

"I'm always open," Adames said. "I'm letting my agents handle that. I'm always open to talking. I'm willing to stay here. I want to stay here."
