Phillies sign Josh Harrison to reported 1-year, $2M deal

The Philadelphia Phillies and veteran infielder Josh Harrison have reached an agreement on a contract for the 2023 season, his agency, MSM Sports, announced.

It's a one-year, $2-million deal, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Harrison will provide some veteran bench depth for the Phillies alongside the likes of Edmundo Sosa, Kody Clemens, and Dalton Guthrie. He brings plenty of versatility to the table, with experience playing second base, third base, corner outfield, and shortstop during his career.

The 35-year-old played for the Chicago White Sox in 2022, where he posted a .687 OPS with seven home runs over 119 games. Harrison spent the year shuffling primarily between second and third base, posting positive defensive numbers at both positions.

Harrison is a lifetime .272/.318/.398 hitter with 71 home runs, 378 RBIs, and 91 stolen bases across parts of 12 major-league seasons with five teams. He's perhaps best known for his eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he earned two All-Star berths as a key component of their playoff teams in the mid-2010s and finished ninth in NL MVP voting in 2014.
