Cardinals' Arenado knows trade is possible: 'It is a business, right?'

St. Louis Cardinals All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado is prepared for the possibility of a trade amid the club's disappointing first-half performance.

"It is a business, right?" Arenado said, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Cardinals limped into the All-Star break in the NL Central basement with a 38-52 record.

St. Louis acquired Arenado from the Colorado Rockies ahead of the 2021 season. The past experience of being dealt has prepared Arenado for the possibility of it happening again.

"I’ve been traded once," Arenado said. "I think that shocked a lot of people at that time. I guess it doesn't surprise me anywhere what happens in this game. It would still be surprising seeing some things happen. But I understand there are certain things that probably should."

Arenado, 32, is enjoying another strong season. The seven-time All-Star is slashing .283/.332/.518 with 19 home runs and 62 RBIs across 86 games.

"I understand what our position is," Arenado said. "I understand things are probably going to happen. But until it involves me, I try not to give it too much thought."
