New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge was wowed by new teammate Juan Soto's debut with the club.

Soto reached base three times, drove in a run, and made an incredible, game-saving throw in the ninth inning to prevent the Houston Astros from tying the contest.

"That was a Yankee classic right there: 'Juan's Debut,'" Judge said, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

The Yankees acquired Soto in a seven-player trade with the San Diego Padres last December.

The 25-year-old has never been known as a plus defender but said he spent the offseason working to improve that aspect of his game.

"I worked all spring training long on my arm and the throws from right field," Soto said. "It's just a great feeling. It just tells you I'm going in the right way with what I've been doing, and I'm more than excited to keep doing it."

The Yankees and Astros resume their season-opening four-game series at Minute Maid Park on Friday night.
