The Milwaukee Brewers acquired right-hander Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays for minor-league infielder Gregory Barrios, the clubs announced Wednesday.

Civale will look to bolster a Brewers rotation hit hard by injuries in 2024. Robert Gasser, DL Hall, Wade Miley, Joe Ross, and Brandon Woodruff are currently on the injured list.

The Rays acquired Civale from the Cleveland Guardians last July for infield prospect Kyle Manzardo. He's under team control for another season and will hit free agency at the conclusion of the 2025 campaign.

Civale struggled in 17 starts this season, posting a 2-6 record with a 5.07 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 84 strikeouts across 87 innings. The 29-year-old had issues keeping the ball in the ballpark, allowing 16 home runs.

Right-hander Shane Baz is expected to take Civale's place in Tampa Bay's rotation, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Baz hasn't made a start in the majors since 2022 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Barrios, 20, is hitting .325 with 34 RBIs and 18 stolen bases at High-A this season.
