New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil is searching for answers after another tough outing against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

Gil allowed four runs in four innings and walked three in New York's 5-4 loss. The 26-year-old's ERA has climbed from a season-best 1.82 following a start against the Minnesota Twins on June 4 to 3.41.

"Maybe the delivery wasn't quite what I wanted," Gil said through an interpreter, according to The Athletic's Brendan Kuty. "I can't pinpoint exactly why."

Gil has a 14.90 ERA over his last three starts. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he believes Gil's struggles relate to performance and problems with adjusting.

"I don't think it's a fatigue issue," Boone said. "I think it's a little-out-of-sorts issue and having a harder time correcting on the fly."

Gil made just two rehab starts for High-A Tampa in 2023 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022. Boone named him to the Yankees' rotation to begin the season following ace Gerrit Cole's elbow injury.

"It's tough," Gil said, "But there's no giving up. That's what it is. You keep battling. You keep fighting, and then you turn it around."

Gil owns a 9-4 record with a 1.13 WHIP and 104 strikeouts across 89 2/3 innings this season.
