Report: Dodgers eyeing Scott, Williams in search for bullpen arm
The Los Angeles Dodgers are seeking a serious bullpen upgrade.
The club is still looking to add a top-shelf relief arm after re-signing Blake Treinen to a two-year deal on Sunday night. Los Angeles is eyeing free-agent lefty Tanner Scott and Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams as possible options, sources told The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.
Scott is widely considered the top available reliever after an All-Star campaign split between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres. He dominated with a 1.75 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 72 appearances.
The Dodgers witnessed Scott's dominance first-hand throughout the NLDS against the Padres, during which he was frequently used in big spots against lefties Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.
The 30-year-old is expected to command a lucrative multi-year deal.
Williams, meanwhile, is a likely trade candidate after the Brewers declined his $10.5-million club option. He's posted a microscopic 1.83 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with a 14.3 K/9 across six MLB seasons.
The righty didn't enjoy the same success Scott had in the postseason, however: He was tagged with the loss and blown save in the Brewers' deciding Game 5 against the New York Mets in their NLDS matchup.
Williams has also drawn interest from other contenders, Ardaya reports.
The Dodgers have been busy so far this offseason. Beyond re-signing Treinen, the reigning World Series champions have inked Blake Snell to a massive five-year deal, added outfielder Michael Conforto, and extended NLCS MVP Tommy Edman.
