Jurgen Klinsmann's settlement following his dismissal as head coach of the United States men's national team was over 10 times richer than the one Bruce Arena received when he departed the same role less than one year later.

Figures from a tax filing published Tuesday by The Associated Press reveal the United States Soccer Federation handed Klinsmann a $3,354,167 payout when he was sacked in November 2016. Klinsmann was ousted while the men's team was struggling to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Arena was brought in to salvage the USMNT's attempts to reach Russia but stepped down in October 2017 after a loss to Trinidad and Tobago ensured there would be no 2018 World Cup campaign for the Americans.

He was subsequently given a $300,000 settlement - over $50,000 less than Klinsmann's top assistant, current Israel handler Andri Herzog, received from his settlement.

Following the tenure of Dave Sarachan, who served as interim coach between November 2017 and November 2018, former Columbus Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter was brought in to oversee the USMNT in December. He is the brother of USSF chief operating officer Jay Berhalter.
