The Galaxy's Dos Santos contingent has been slashed in half.

Los Angeles announced Friday that the club exercised the offseason buyout option on Mexican international Giovani dos Santos, removing the 29-year-old from the first-team roster on the eve of the 2019 MLS campaign.

"We have been working with the player this preseason to reach an agreement that is best for both sides." Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese said Friday. "We have come to this decision and believe that it is best for the club and for Giovani. We will work with the player and his representatives to find an on-field solution for the player's next step. We appreciate what he has contributed to our club and wish him the best in his future."

Giovani, who played alongside brother Jonathan with the Galaxy, joined the club in 2015 from Villarreal. The 104-time capped El Tri standout registered 26 goals and 22 assists in 77 appearances for the record five-time MLS champs.

Dos Santos' exit brings the Galaxy to the league-required three Designated Player spots, with Jonathan dos Santos, Romain Alessandrini, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic carrying that title. The Galaxy are now roster compliant.
