D.C. United's Arriola confirms long-term layoff with ACL injury
D.C. United's Paul Arriola will miss a significant chunk of the upcoming MLS campaign after suffering an ACL injury in Saturday's preseason friendly against Orlando City.
The midfielder, who started the last three matches for the United States men's national team, took to Twitter on Monday to confirm the news of his serious knee injury.
A few days back on February 15th, as many know, I suffered an ACL injury to my right knee that will take months to recover from. As of now it is still unclear on a timeline of events as we consult with doctors and physicians to figure out what the next best step is for.. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/RJ0sH2l03r

... myself, my career, and my knee. I want to thank everyone for their kind messages and prayers. I love you guys and I know 100% that I will be back stronger than ever. 💪🏼 (2/2)

Arriola, 25, made 29 regular season appearances for D.C. United in 2019 and is signed to a Designated Player contract. His absence will add to concerns that head coach Ben Olsen is light on numbers heading into the new term.
