Jon Jones might not have to wait much longer for his return to action, as UFC president Dana White told ESPN's Brett Okamoto that the promotion is working to get the 31-year-old on the card for UFC 232 against Alexander Gustafsson.

That event is scheduled for Dec. 29 in Las Vegas, roughly two months after Jones is eligible for a return to competition following his failed drug test and 15-month suspension.

Jones met Gustafsson at UFC 165 in 2013 for one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights ever. Jones won by unanimous decision, but his Swedish counterpart pushed him close to defeat.

"It's one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights in history and I expect the rematch to be the same!!!!" White said in a text message.

The two were supposed to meet again in 2014 but Gustafsson was forced out due to injury.

Representatives for Jones declined to comment on the potential fight when asked by Okamoto, and Gustafsson's camp wasn't immediately available.
