UFC featherweight Alexander Volkanovski was hospitalized in Santiago, Chile, following his UFC 237 win over Jose Aldo, his manager told ESPN's Ariel Helwani on Tuesday.

Volkanovski is being treated for a blood infection.

The featherweight contender complained of sore feet and felt sick after the fight, and his condition worsened during a layover en route to Australia. It is currently unknown when he will be discharged.

"Alex is in good spirits," manager Rhys Dal Cin said. "He's resting in the hospital. He's on antibiotics and awaiting blood test results."

Volkanovski (20-1) is one of the hottest fighters in the UFC at the moment. The unanimous decision victory over Aldo marked his 17th consecutive win and seventh straight with the promotion.

The 30-year-old was thought to be next in line to battle Max Holloway, but the featherweight champion will instead put his belt on the line against Frankie Edgar. The two reportedly agreed to a bout at UFC 240.
