Tito Ortiz to face ex-WWE champ Alberto Del Rio in MMA fight
UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz is set to fight former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio in a mixed martial arts bout for the Combate Americas promotion, officials told ESPN's Marc Raimondi on Tuesday.
Late 2019 is being targeted for the contest that will be fought at a 210-pound catchweight. A location has yet to be determined.
Oritz (20-12-1) hasn't entered the cage since ending his retirement to face longtime rival Chuck Liddell last November. The former UFC light heavyweight champion won via first-round knockout to avenge his previous losses to Liddell.
The legendary American fighter, who helped push the UFC to new mainstream heights in the mid-2000s, signed with Combate Americas in April.
Del Rio - whose real name is Alberto Rodriguez - held both the WWE Championship and the WWE World Heavyweight title twice during two stints with the company (2009 to 2014 and 2015 to 2016).
The 42-year-old hasn't squared off in an MMA fight since 2010. He announced his intention to return to the sport last October.
Del Rio fought under a mask as his Mexican lucha libre character, Dos Caras Jr., for Pride FC in Japan from 2003 to 2004.
