Colby Covington surprised many with a recent tweet directed at Ben Askren, in which the former seemingly extended a friendly message to his welterweight rival, paired with a photo of teammate Jorge Masvidal and Tyron Woodley together.

"I was just throwing some sympathy ... Ben Askren's way (following his five-second loss to Masvidal at UFC 239)," Covington told theScore. "I was wondering if he needed any help with anything since I help Jorge a lot. So I was trying to help him out and be a good friend for him."

Woodley and Askren are close friends and training partners. While Covington was making light of the situation, the former Olympic wrestler didn't reciprocate.

"That was a terrible response, he marked out. You can tell he doesn't have someone else writing in that response. Usually, he's got people writing all his Twitter jokes, all his Twitter stuff. You can tell he wrote that out of emotion and it was a shitty response."

Covington headlines UFC on ESPN 5 this Saturday against Robbie Lawler at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Watch the full interview with "Chaos" below and subscribe to theScoreMMA Youtube channel here.
