Conor McGregor said Wednesday that he'll be back in the Octagon soon.

"We're very close to announcing (my next fight), not just yet," McGregor said at a news conference in Ukraine, according to ESPN's Marc Raimondi. "But surely over the course of this trip, we should have an announcement. That's what we're aiming for."

McGregor (21-4) is currently on a promotional tour in Eastern Europe for his sponsor Parimatch. The 31-year-old hasn't competed since an October 2018 submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. The Irish superstar discussed the importance of participating in more fights.

"I used to fight every couple of weeks, really, before the UFC came, then it was every couple of months," said McGregor. "Now the politics of the prize got involved, and it's almost, I fight one and then I go off. I do not like that. You can't be like that in this game. I must continue. ... You must be consistent."

The former two-division champion also said the UFC turned down a matchup he wanted against Frankie Edgar in December.

"They were saying we won't make enough money on the Frankie fight," McGregor said. "I was like, I don't care. Don't worry about me. Give my purse to charity. But for whatever reason, it's being made difficult. But like I said, we're almost there. It's never easy with this crowd."

McGregor is reportedly being investigated over a second sexual assault allegation in less than a year.
