Holloway brutalizes Kattar in UFC main event

Former featherweight champion Max Holloway destroyed Calvin Kattar in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Saturday, winning by unanimous decision (50-43, 50-43, 50-42) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Holloway dominated Kattar from start to finish. He immediately pressured his opponent and landed several punches.

Holloway established himself as the quicker and sharper striker, and the fight only got more lopsided as it proceeded. Kattar struggled to connect early on because of Holloway's relentless and overwhelming pressure. Meanwhile, the Hawaiian teed off on Kattar at will.

He almost finished Kattar at the end of the second round. Kattar rallied in the third frame, getting Holloway's attention with a solid punch. However, Holloway's output still gave him the edge. The former champ nearly finished Kattar again in the fourth round, hurting his foe with shots to the head and body.

Kattar swung wild shots in the fifth in hopes of a miraculous comeback, and he connected with a few punches and elbows. But Holloway's chin held up and it was ultimately still one-way traffic for "Blessed" en route to the unanimous decision verdict.

With the victory, Holloway snapped his two-fight skid - both losses came against current champion Alexander Volkanovski - and cemented his status as the No. 1-ranked featherweight.

He also broke several UFC striking records, including most significant strikes in a fight (445), most strikes in a fight (447), most significant strikes thrown in a fight (744), and most strikes thrown in a fight (746), according to Fight Metric's Michael Carroll.

Kattar, meanwhile, saw his two-fight winning streak come to an end.
