Report: Celtics focused on frontcourt additions

The Boston Celtics head into the offseason focused on landing "All-Star caliber talent" in the frontcourt, sources told CSN's A. Sherrod Blakeley.

While this jives with earlier reports that have the Celtics interested in expected Utah Jazz free-agent Gordon Hayward, a further upgrade to the front line is likely necessary. Boston was pushed around in the trenches by the likes of Robin Lopez, Marcin Gortat, and Tristan Thompson in the playoffs, and the team could use another big man to play off the passing skills of Al Horford.

Who that could be remains to be seen. Signing Hayward would mean a max contract for the small forward, and most of the Celtics' existing bigs are all free agents. Amir Johnson and Jonas Jerebko are unrestricted, while Kelly Olynyk will be restricted assuming the team picks up his qualifying offer.

Team president Danny Ainge conceded Friday that the roster could undergo "significant change" this summer, which may mean going the trade route.

"We have a lot of good players," Ainge said. "But we need some great ones."
