Lillard won't latch on with superteam: 'I'm not joining nobody'

Damian Lillard is firmly against joining a superteam - now or ever.

Asked about Kevin Durant joining the 73-win Golden State Warriors last summer, the Portland Trail Blazers star said that's not a route he personally would've taken.

"I wouldn't have done it," Lillard said on Complex's "Everyday Struggle."

"For me, I'm not joining nobody."

Not even the best player in the world in LeBron James?

"Like I said, I'm not joining nobody," he replied. "I would not win a championship before I go and team up and do all that. Unless it was like something that I couldn't control. But I wouldn't have did that."

The host continued to prod the 27-year-old All-Star to see if his stance would waver, perhaps when he gets older, but Lillard stood firm.

"I'm saying this because this is how I feel, not how I feel at the moment," he said, adding he doesn't have a problem with anyone else chasing rings.

"I think if that's what somebody wants to do, I'm not mad at them for doing it. I'm just telling you what I'm not going to do."

It's not the first time the Oakland native has expressed his feelings on the matter. Last year he indicated he has too much pride to join a superteam and would rather do his part to make the Blazers a championship contender. He's been open about recruiting Carmelo Anthony, Paul George, and Anthony Davis to Portland.

It sounds like the Trail Blazers have got themselves a keeper.

Lillard posted averages of 27 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game last season and is locked up in Rip City through 2021.
