The New Orleans Pelicans announced four-time All-Star Rajon Rondo has been cleared to make his season debut Monday against the visiting Atlanta Hawks.

If all goes well, Rondo will play up to six minutes off the Pelicans' bench, easing his way back from a sports hernia injury.

Rondo signed a one-year, $3.3-million contract with New Orleans this summer, reuniting the 31-year-old veteran with former teammate DeMarcus Cousins, with whom Rondo averaged a league-best 11.7 assists per game with the Sacramento Kings in 2015-16.

In 11 seasons split between the Celtics, Mavericks, Kings, and Bulls, Rondo has averaged 10.7 points, 8.5 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game.
