Durant's mom says feud between son, Westbrook is 'too hyped'

Wanda Durant believes the bitter battling between her son Kevin Durant and former teammate Russell Westbrook is being made out to be more than it is.

The two players drew the spotlight Wednesday in Oklahoma City when Durant, with his Golden State Warriors down 17 to the Thunder, took exception to a defensive swipe by Westbrook in the third quarter. Durant then proceeded to follow him around the court before the two had to be pulled apart by teammates after butting heads.

None of that was anything out of the ordinary, however, according to Durant's mother.

"It's OKC," she told ESPN's Chris Haynes. "It's the same atmosphere that they've always had, so we wouldn't expect anything different. I just think it's too hyped. It's just basketball.

"Not even as a fan and being here and watching both of them, I really don't get it. But it is what it is."

Following the Warriors' loss, Durant attempted to pour cold water on the alleged animosity between him and Westbrook, chiding a reporter for asking about the fracas he defined as "not real."

Speaking with Haynes, he doubled down on his comments and again downplayed the supposed beef between the two former teammates.

"It's not about me and Russ," Durant said. "It's about the Thunder and the Warriors. Myself and Russ are competing out there. That's part of the game. It's basketball. It's not about us.

"We're just playing the game, and trash talking is part of it. That's all it is."
