Hall of Famer and five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman was arrested late Saturday in California and charged with driving under the influence, police Lt. Rachel Johnson told CNN's Dakin Andone and Sheena Jones.

Rodman cooperated fully after being pulled over by the Newport Beach Police Department for a traffic violation, Johnson said. Rodman was later jailed for seven hours after he failed a breathalyzer test.

Following the arrest, Rodman's agent Darren Prince said he hasn't spoken to his client yet, but stated that Rodman has "struggled openly with alcoholism the past 17 years" and advised the former NBA center to check into a rehabilitation center.

Rodman previously checked into a rehab facility in 2014 following a visit to North Korea. The 56-year-old has been busy over the last few years attempting to improve relations between Kim Jong Un, the isolated Asian nation's leader, and the United States. In his efforts to promote peace between the two countries, Rodman recently announced preliminary plans for an exhibition basketball game between North Korea and U.S. territory Guam.
