The latest chapter of the Carmelo Anthony saga has come to an end.

“After much internal discussion, the Rockets will be parting ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working toward a resolution,” general manager Daryl Morey announced in a statement from the team. “Carmelo had a tremendous approach during his time with the Rockets and accepted every role head coach Mike D’Antoni gave him. The fit we envisioned when Carmelo chose to sign with the Rockets has not materialized, therefore we thought it was best to move on as any other outcome would have been unfair to him.”

Though the Rockets will be moving on from Anthony, the veteran forward will remain on the roster, for the time being, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 34-year-old averaged 13.4 points on 40.5 percent shooting and 5.4 rebounds per appearance over the Rockets' first 10 games this season, but sat out the past three contests with what the team called an "illness."

Anthony's camp reportedly continues to search for a potential suitor for the future Hall of Famer. Should he be waived, teams would be able to claim him at his $2.4-million salary. He is unable to be traded prior to Dec. 15, having signed with the Rockets as a free agent this offseason.
