Denver Nuggets forward Will Barton will undergo a procedure Tuesday after suffering an adductor strain in Saturday's win over the Phoenix Suns and is expected to miss five-to-six weeks, a source told ESPN's Marc J. Spears.

Barton felt something pop during a layup attempt in the third quarter in Denver and had to be carted off the floor.

The versatile playmaker was expected to be the Nuggets' starting small forward this season after signing a four-year, $54-million contract over the summer.

Denver traded last season's starter Wilson Chandler to the Philadelphia 76ers in July to clear minutes for Barton.

Barton placed fourth in Sixth Man of the Year voting in 2017-18, averaging 15.7 points, five boards, and 4.1 dimes in 81 contests.
