The Los Angeles Lakers' 1980s "Showtime" era is the focus of an upcoming five-part documentary series.

The Lakers and Los Angeles Media Fund are partnering with Haven Entertainment on the project, according to Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline. Kristopher Belman, best known for the 2008 LeBron James documentary, "More Than a Game," will direct the series.

"The Lakers are one of the most storied franchises in the NBA - but 'Showtime' holds a special place in the hearts of our fans and this city we're proud to call home," Lakers co-owner and CEO Jeanie Buss said.

"We are excited to partner with Los Angeles Media Fund and Haven Entertainment to produce this documentary series, celebrating that era, its stars, and its unique buzz. I can't wait to watch."

A release date for the project has yet to be announced.
