The Toronto Raptors made Canadian sports history Thursday when they defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 to win their first-ever NBA championship.

That series-clinching win also made Canadian television history after becoming the most-watched NBA game north of the border, reaching an average audience of 7.7-million viewers, according to TSN.

In addition to the record-breaking number, Game 6 had a record 15.9-million unique Canadian viewers tune in at some point during the game - equaling approximately 44 percent of Canada's population.

The victory is the first major championship among Toronto's big three sports teams since the Blue Jays won the World Series in 1992 and 1993. The Maple Leafs haven't hoisted the Stanley Cup since 1967.
