Boogie 'never wanted' to stop playing with Anthony Davis

DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis enjoyed a brief stint playing together with the New Orleans Pelicans from 2017 to 2018.

So Cousins took full advantage of the opportunity to reunite with the six-time All-Star when he agreed to a reported one-year, $3.5-million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month.

"Me and AD have talked numerous times about teammates again," Cousins told reporters on Wednesday, including ClutchPoints' Ryan Ward. "We never wanted it to end, but everything kind of happens for a reason. That being said, the opportunity presented itself and I chose to make it happen."

Cousins played arguably his best stretch of basketball alongside Davis, averaging 25 points, 12.7 boards, five assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game across 65 appearances for the Pelicans.

However, Cousins' 2017-18 campaign was cut short when the All-Star center tore his left Achilles. The 28-year-old suffered another serious injury in April - a torn left quad - but returned in time for the NBA Finals.

It was clear Cousins wasn't at his best during the championship series. He says his quad has fully healed since then, and Cousins believes he can be a potent force this upcoming season while playing with Davis.

"I think we're a pretty tough big-man duo," Cousins said. "That's part of the reason we wanted to become teammates again."

"We realized how much better we made one another ... How much we made the game easier for one another, so I think we both appreciate each other's presence, but to add LeBron James to the mix, his resume speaks for itself," he added.
