Lyles represents the Spurs' replacement for Morris after their deal with the former Boston Celtic fell apart. Lyles became an unrestricted free agent when the Denver Nuggets pulled their qualifying offer to him after acquiring forward Jerami Grant from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
New York continues making head-scratching moves, signing a fourth natural power forward this summer - including Taj Gibson, Julius Randle, and Bobby Portis - despite drafting Kevin Knox with the No. 9 pick in 2018. However, Morris believes signing with the Knicks is the right decision for his career.
"I had to make this decision based on the best situation for me and my family. This is no knock on the Spurs. I have respect for them," Morris said, according to Charania.
The agreement was made possible after the Knicks reportedly began renegotiating a two-year, $21-million deal with 3-and-D specialist Reggie Bullock.
