Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers to become the lead assistant on Doc Rivers' coaching staff, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Lue was nearing a deal to become the Los Angeles Lakers' head coach earlier this summer before talks fell through due to a disagreement on contract details. The Lakers moved on and added ex-Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel to lead the way.

Lue spent three seasons as an assistant under Rivers with the Boston Celtics (2011-13) and Clippers (2013-14). He moved on to become the lead assistant for the Cavaliers in 2014 under David Blatt and was eventually promoted to head coach halfway through the following season. Lue was fired by Cleveland after a winless start to the 2018-19 campaign.

The 2016 NBA champion was arguably the most respected coach on the market.

The Clippers are listed as the title favorites after adding Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to one of the deepest rosters in the Association.
