Carmelo Anthony's representatives are "aggressively" fighting a perception among NBA franchises that the veteran can no longer be a functional team player and is still focused on being a primary scorer, league sources told Heavy.com's Sean Deveney.

"(Anthony) has been the scapegoat for a few teams that didn't play up to their potential," Deveney quoted a source as saying.

The 35-year-old Anthony hasn't suited up in an NBA game since early last season with the Houston Rockets, after which he was traded to the Chicago Bulls and waived. There hasn't been much interest in the 10-time All-Star around the league this offseason, although a report surfaced last week that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant were pushing the Brooklyn Nets to give him an opportunity.

Anthony, a former NBA scoring champion, balked at coming off the bench during his time with both the Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder. His last season as a go-to player came with the 31-51 New York Knicks in 2016-17.
