Atlanta Hawks rising star Trae Young was helped off the court and to the locker room during Tuesday's game against the Miami Heat with an ankle injury.

The Hawks later announced Young suffered an ankle sprain and that he wouldn't return to the contest, according to ESPN's Marc J. Spears.

However, there's optimism he avoided a serious injury after X-rays on his ankle were negative, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The guard could be out for two weeks, but the length of his absence will be confirmed after an MRI on Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Young landed on Justise Winslow's foot while attempting to drive to the basket in the second quarter, and he immediately fell to the floor in pain.

While being carried off the court, the Hawks' young ball-handler appeared to avoid putting much pressure on his right ankle.

Young was in the midst of a blistering start to his sophomore season.

Entering Tuesday's matchup in Miami, the 21-year-old was averaging 34 points, nine assists, and six rebounds over three games. He was also named the first Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference for the 2019-20 season.
