The Charlotte Hornets have waived forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the team announced Saturday.

The two parties had been working toward a buyout agreement, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon reported earlier Saturday. The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly a potential destination once Kidd-Gilchrist clears waivers.

The 26-year-old has played sparingly this season as Charlotte shifts toward a youth movement. He is the second Hornets player to be bought out in recent days after Marvin Williams' departure from the club.

Kidd-Gilchrist's outside shooting is one of his glaring weaknesses. However, the former second overall pick does boast a 7-foot wingspan and would provide prospective teams with a solid perimeter defender. In 12 appearances in 2019-20, Kidd-Gilchrist has posted a 95.0 defensive rating.
