The Dallas Mavericks reached a deal to sign former Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the Mavs announced Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was officially waived by Charlotte on Saturday after agreeing to a buyout. The Mavericks quickly emerged as a possible destination for the former second overall pick.

To open up a spot for Kidd-Gilchrist, Dallas has requested waivers on second-year shooting guard Ryan Broekhoff.

In seven-and-a-half seasons in the NBA, Kidd-Gilchrist has averaged 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds. He's been limited to just 12 appearances in 2019-20. The 6-foot-6 forward is expected to serve as an effective wing defender for the Mavericks in a limited role off the bench.

Broekhoff signed a two-year deal with the Mavericks in August 2018 as an international free agent. The Australian is averaging 4.2 points and 2.5 rebounds in 17 games this season.
