Although Spencer Dinwiddie's thrived in a lead role with the Nets this season - especially while Kyrie Irving's been sidelined - the 26-year-old point guard recognizes his future in Brooklyn may depend on which direction the team decides to go in this summer once Irving and Kevin Durant are healthy.

"Quite honestly, if that's the case and we're trying to get another star, I probably won't be here," Dinwiddie said Saturday when asked about Irving's comments last month on the Nets' need for more pieces, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

When told that Irving didn't use the word "star," Dinwiddie added: "Whatever happens, happens. That star thing scared me because for us to get a star, that means me and some picks are gone."

While Irving said "it's glaring" that the Nets are one or two players shy of competing with the NBA's upper-echelon teams, he hinted at his desire to have Dinwiddie with the club beyond this season.

Dinwiddie, who's averaging 21 points and 6.6 assists through 53 games this campaign, is in the first season of a three-year, $34-million contract. The deal includes a player option for the 2021-22 campaign.
