Perkins challenges Kyrie: Don't say you're willing to take action, do it
Former NBA center and current analyst Kendrick Perkins called on Kyrie Irving to put his money where his mouth is and take action in support of social justice reform.
Irving reportedly said he'd be "willing to give up everything" he has for reform during a conference call with approximately 80-100 players last week. Perkins appeared to question the sincerity of Irving's words.
"I read another statement that Kyrie made, saying he's willing to give up it all. Don't be willing. This ain't the time to be willing. Do it," Perkins said Monday during an appearance on "ESPN's The Jump."
"Maya Moore, she wasn't willing, she did it," Perkins continued. "She walked away from the game of basketball and took this on full time."
Moore took off the last two WNBA seasons in an attempt to help overturn Jonathan Irons' conviction. Her efforts paid off in March when the conviction was reversed.
Perkins' comments come shortly after Utah Jazz forward Ed Davis also questioned Irving's genuineness.
"It's easy for a guy like Kyrie to say that he'll give everything back, but would he really give everything back?" Davis said.
