Houston Rockets forward Robert Covington avoided a broken nose and passed the league's concussion protocol following a hard collision in Game 3 on Tuesday, a source told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

Head coach Mike D'Antoni later confirmed Covington practiced Wednesday and will play in Game 4, according to Sports Illustrated's Michael Shapiro.

With the Rockets trailing in the fourth quarter, Covington's head slammed into the right arm of Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis as he attempted to collect a rebound and was nudged by Kyle Kuzma.

Covington was the main piece acquired in a trade-deadline move that shuttled center Clint Capela to the Atlanta Hawks, effectively triggering the Rockets' full-time transition to small ball.

He's started all but one outing since joining the team in February. Through 10 playoff contests this year, the 29-year-old is averaging 12.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 33.3 minutes per game. He's shooting 50.8% on threes and providing excellent help defense.

Game 4 is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
