Giannis sees being a Buck long-term 'as long as everybody's on the same page'

Giannis Antetokounmpo won his second straight NBA MVP award Friday and became the first player since Hakeem Olajuwon to take MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season.

Now, questions have moved toward his long-term future with the Milwaukee Bucks.

"Obviously I had a great meeting with the owners," Antetokounmpo told TNT's Ernie Johnson of his recent gathering with Bucks executives.

"(We) talked about the team, talked about what went wrong (in the playoffs), what can we do," he said. "But as long as everybody's on the same page and as long as everybody's fighting for the same thing, fighting for the same thing every single day, which is to be a champion, I don't see why not to be in Milwaukee for the next 15 years."

Antetokounmpo is eligible to sign a supermax extension this offseason. If he doesn't sign that contract, the Bucks risk losing him for nothing as an unrestricted free agent in 2021. The Miami Heat - who eliminated Milwaukee in the second round of the playoffs - and the Toronto Raptors are rumored potential suitors for the superstar.

The Bucks reportedly have no intention to trade the two-time MVP if he doesn't sign the supermax.

Milwaukee needs to elevate talent to compete for an NBA championship, but its current contractual obligations are somewhat handcuffing the team. With $114 million in salary on the books for next season, the Bucks' most tradable player asset is likely point guard Eric Bledsoe.

Reports emerged this week that Milwaukee is likely uninterested in trading for Chris Paul, given the veteran point guard is owed up to $85 million over the next two seasons.
