Report: Knicks adding Kidd-Gilchrist on 1-year deal

The New York Knicks are signing defensive-minded forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to a one-year deal, a source told ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Kidd-Gilchrist, 27, averaged a career-low 2.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 11.2 minutes per game in 2019-20, splitting the year between the Charlotte Hornets and Dallas Mavericks.

Owing to his shortcomings on the offensive end, the 6-foot-6 Kidd-Gilchrist hasn't lived up to his status as the No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft - he was selected second by Charlotte behind generational phenom Anthony Davis.

Even when the Kentucky product was consistently logging more than 20 minutes per game from 2012-18, he only averaged 9.1 points per contest on 47.7% shooting (and just 19.4% on long balls).

Still, Kidd-Gilchrist's reported addition to the Knicks' rotation serves as a counter to some of the team's offense-first forwards, such as 2019 free-agent signee Julius Randle and 2020 draftee Obi Toppin.
