Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro won the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award Tuesday for the 2021-22 season.

Herro won the honor in a landslide, earning 96 of 100 first-place votes and finishing with 488 total points. Cleveland Cavaliers veteran Kevin Love placed second with three first-place votes and 214 points. Phoenix Suns forward Cameron Johnson was the only other player to receive a first-place selection; he picked up one and registered 128 total points.

Herro, 22, is the first Heat player to win the prize.

"It means a lot," the third-year guard told Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press. "I accepted the sixth man role for a reason. I wanted to be the best sixth man in the league."

The Kentucky product came off the bench in 56 of his 66 regular-season appearances this season. He averaged 20.7 points, the best scoring output among all qualified players who started 41 games or fewer this year, according to Stathead. Herro also tallied five rebounds, four assists, and 0.7 steals while shooting 39.9% from three. He led Miami's reserve unit, which finished as the highest-scoring bench in the league.
