Report: Spurs' Fox to undergo season-ending finger surgery
San Antonio Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox will undergo season-ending surgery on his left pinkie, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Thursday.
The former All-Star suffered tendon damage during his October training camp with the Sacramento Kings but decided to play through the injury. The decision to have a procedure now was made in an attempt to be ready for the start of next season, Charania added.
Fox has played 17 games for the Spurs since he was acquired from the Kings just before the trade deadline.
The 27-year-old was averaging 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 62 games split between San Antonio and Sacramento.
Second-year center Victor Wembanyama was also ruled out for the remainder of the season in February after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.
The team has also been missing legendary head coach Gregg Popovich after the 76-year-old Hall of Famer suffered a stroke in November.
The Spurs are 4-8 since Wembanyama was shut down. They sit 12th in the West with a 27-37 record and are scheduled to play host to the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.
San Antonio currently has a 3% chance at the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft, per Tankathon.
