Spurs' Castle wins Rookie of the Year

San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle was named the NBA's Rookie of the Year during Tuesday's playoffs broadcast on TNT.

Castle becomes the second straight Spur to take home the award after Victor Wembanyama earned the honor last season. The UConn product beat out Atlanta Hawks first overall pick Zaccharie Risacher and Memphis Grizzlies wing Jaylen Wells.

The 2024 fourth overall pick received 92 first-place votes, while Risacher got five, and Wells earned three.

Castle made 81 appearances for the Spurs, averaging 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists on 42.8% shooting in 26.7 minutes per game. He led all rookies in points (1,190) and steals (74).

The 20-year-old shined in the second half of the season, recording 17.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and five assists.

Castle is now the fourth Spur to win Rookie of the Year, joining David Robinson (1989-1990), Tim Duncan (1997-98), and Wembanyama.
