College basketball fans could soon be treated to additional Big Ten games.

The Big Ten is discussing expanding the conference schedule from 18 to 20 games and starting conference play in December, commissioner Jim Delany told Jeff Goodman of ESPN.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo appears to be on board with the move, but he wants to make sure his fellow Power 5 conferences follow suit.

"If everyone doesn't go to 20 games in the Power 5, someone will have a major advantage in terms of wins and losses," Izzo said. "When you are only talking about a difference of one game in wins, it's not a big deal. But when you start talking two or three wins, a lot of time they will take the team with the better record."

Izzo is referring to Selection Sunday, when debates over who should and shouldn't be in the NCAA tournament become highly contentious. Playing a pair of weaker non-conference opponents typically helps pad a team's record earlier in the season.

The ACC already declared it hopes to play 20 conference games by 2019-20.
