White Sox select son of ex-Indiana head coach Tom Crean in MLB draft

Riley Crean doesn't seem destined to follow in his father's footsteps as a basketball man.

MLB teams made their final selections in the 2017 draft Wednesday, and when it came time for the 35th round, the Chicago White Sox used the 1,047th overall selection on the son of former Indiana head coach Tom Crean.

Riley committed to Indiana to play baseball next season, so it remains to be seen whether he plans to keep that commitment or sign a pro contract. As a right-handed pitcher, his fastball has been clocked as high as 87 mph.

He's also the nephew of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, so he's spurned two family callings in pursuit of his own athletic dreams.
