3 best games on Sunday's March Madness schedule
The final day of the opening weekend will serve up some thrilling encounters before the Big Dance moves on to the Sweet 16 on Thursday.
Here are the three most promising games to watch on Sunday.
2:40 p.m. ET - Washington (9) vs. North Carolina (1) - Midwest Region
North Carolina struggled early on in its Round 1 win against Iona on Friday - but it would be wrong to assume the Tar Heels aren't among the favorites to win the national championship.
The Gaels caught fire from 3-point range early on and went into the half with a five-point lead. However, as expected, UNC stormed back and dominated the final 20 minutes behind an excellent showing from Cam Johnson (21 points, seven boards) and a welcome boost from freshman Nassir Little (19 points).
North Carolina now heads to the Round of 32 against a pesky Washington squad led by Matisse Thybulle, who's developed into a historically great defensive presence for the Huskies. The 6-foot-5 senior finished with five steals and three blocks in Washington's opening-round win. He'll now focus his attention on slowing down Tar Heels freshman Coby White.
There is a contrast in styles between the two programs, as Roy Williams' boys are among the fastest teams in the nation and put up plenty of points (third in scoring with 86.1 points per game) while the Huskies like to slow down the pace and boast a strong defense (64.3 points against).
5:15 p.m. ET - UCF (9) vs. Duke (1) - East Region
Tacko Fall versus Zion Williamson. The 7-foot-6 senior sensation faces off against one of the most physically dominant athletes in college basketball history. What else do you need?
Williamson is virtually unstoppable going to the basket, scoring on 76.1 percent of his 2-point field goals in 30 games this season. However, Fall's size has helped him become one of the best rim-protectors in the nation, with a block percentage of 11.5 this year.
This Duke team is stacked and has earned the media attention it's received throughout the season. But, Fall has an opportunity to etch his name in UCF lore if he can lead the Knights to a massive upset.
6:10 p.m. ET - Buffalo (6) vs. Texas Tech (3) - West Region
Jarrett Culver's emergence has been an exciting development in Texas Tech's season. The 6-foot-5 swingman's effectiveness on offense has helped his team become an under-the-radar Final Four threat.
Buffalo will likely serve as the Red Raiders' stiffest test since they lost to Duke on Dec. 20.
The Bulls are a veteran squad, sporting five seniors in their rotation with excellent versatility. CJ Massinburg is the clear go-to scorer, averaging 18.3 points while connecting on 40.0 percent of his 6.6 3-point attempts per game.
It'll be intriguing to see if Culver is able to mimic his 29-point, eight-rebound, seven-assist performance in Round 1 when he faces one of the most disciplined rosters in the country.
