UNLV has landed one of the most highly sought-after transfers on the market in South Dakota State star guard David Jenkins Jr.

The 21-year-old announced on social his commitment to the Rebels on Saturday.

Oregon and Gonzaga were also in the running for Jenkins.

He joins his former head coach, T.J. Otzelberger, who left South Dakota State in March after a successful three-year stint with the Jackrabbits. Jenkins was granted his release from South Dakota State just five days after Otzelberger accepted the Rebels' head coaching position.

"I could not be more thrilled for the opportunity to continue coaching David," Otzelberger said in a statement. "He will quickly become a fan favorite here in Las Vegas because of his personality and his competitive drive. David is a gifted scorer, a proven winner, and a fantastic teammate."

The 6-foot-2 sophomore will sit out the upcoming season and has two years of eligibility remaining. Jenkins averaged 19.7 points last year on 45.8 percent shooting - including a 45.3 percent clip from distance. He was an All-Summit League first-team selection and drilled a program-record 112 triples during the 2018-19 campaign.

UNLV fired head coach Marvin Menzies after failing to make the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season.
