The NCAA Division I Committee provided legislative relief for D-I baseball, lifting the 35-man roster cap and eliminating the 25% scholarship minimum for the 2020-21 academic year, according to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.
This means many juniors will go back for their senior year and incoming freshmen will choose to play college baseball rather than sign for $20,000 if they aren't selected in the condensed 2020 MLB Amateur Draft, notes Mark Saxon of The Athletic.
MLB teams can sign an unlimited amount of undrafted free agents with a maximum signing bonus of $20,000 for each player.
The draft, which starts Wednesday and will be held remotely, will only be comprised of 160 picks over five rounds due to the coronavirus pandemic.
