Miami's Richt benching Michael Irvin II until off-field issues are resolved

Family ties may be enough to earn preferential treatment in certain jobs, but not under Mark Richt's watch.

The Miami head coach announced Sunday that tight end Michael Irvin II hasn't met expectations regarding his conduct away from the field, and won't play until those issues are resolved.

"Irvin hasn't done what he's supposed to do off the field and until he does we won't let him play," Richt said, according to the Miami Herald's Susan Miller Degnan.

The sophomore has yet to make a serious impact with the Hurricanes despite being in the running for playing time following the departure of starting tight end David Njoku to the NFL. Irvin has just three catches for 39 yards so far this season.

His father Michael is regarded as both a Miami and NFL legend, having set numerous Hurricanes records before going on to a Hall of Fame career with the Dallas Cowboys.
