Former Houston head coach Major Applewhite will join Alabama's coaching staff as an analyst, according to Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

Applewhite was Nick Saban's first offensive coordinator after joining the Crimson Tide in 2007. He left for Texas after one season.

The 40-year-old spent the last two seasons as the head coach of the Cougars, compiling a 15-10 record. Applewhite was fired in December after his team lost four of their last five games in 2018, including a 70-14 loss to Army in the Armed Forces Bowl.

Saban has made a habit of bringing in former head coaches to be part of his staff. Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, and Butch Jones were all hired after being fired from their previous jobs. Former Maryland boss DJ Durkin was also rumored to be consulting for Alabama this past season.
