Notre Dame bolstered its 2020 recruiting class on Thursday, as four-star running back Chris Tyree announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish.

Tyree is the No. 3 running back in the ESPN 300 and top-ranked player from Virginia.

The 5-foot-9, 171-pound rusher held offers from a number of top-tier schools but ultimately chose Notre Dame over Alabama and Oklahoma.

Tyree cited running back coach Lance Taylor - who coached Christian McCaffrey and Bryce Love at Stanford - as a major factor in his decision but said it was also about more than just football.

"It's really prestigious academically," he said, according to CBS Sports' Tyler Savitsky. "We thought about and if football wasn't in the picture, what school would be the best fit for me, so I feel like, just to get a degree from a prestigious school like Notre Dame is really important."
