Conference USA fined Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin $5,000 for posting a blind referees meme on social media.

"Conference USA has specific rules and standards regarding sportsmanship which have been adopted by our membership," commissioner Judy MacLeod said in a statement. "We have an obligation to enforce the rules, including the prohibition of public criticism of officiating."

Kiffin posted the meme after the Owls fell 36-31 to Marshall. Florida Atlantic drew nine penalties, costing it 90 yards. Marshall was flagged six times for 68 yards.

The 44-year-old said Sunday the league agreed that officiating was "definitely not on point" during the game, according to Jake Elman of the Palm Beach Post.

"I sent what I thought was kind of (a) funny tweet," Kiffin said. "And so I guess they didn't think so and I did. ... I guess there's no freedom to tweet around here."
