Indiana's Penix out for year with collarbone injury
Indiana announced Tuesday that redshirt freshman quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will miss the rest of the year after undergoing surgery for a right sternoclavicular joint injury.
Penix exited Saturday's game against Northwestern with the injury.
"We feel really bad for Mike," head coach Tom Allen said. "He's worked extremely hard and had a great season. He'll recover from this and get bigger and stronger this offseason. Mike has a very bright future with the Hoosiers."
Penix had a strong debut season, throwing for 1,394 yards and 10 touchdowns against just four interceptions while leading Indiana to a 5-1 record.
The Hoosiers are 2-1 in games without Penix and currently sit third in the Big Ten East.
Junior passer Peyton Ramsey is expected to take over the starting role.
